Historical place



It is popular as Tara Masjid in local language. The entire structure is magnificent and has got wonderful decorations that are adorn with motifs of blue stars; with beautiful composition it has got five domes. It was constructed by Golam Pir during the first half of the 19th century. It is located at the Armanitola area, which is in the old region of the city.

National Museum

Bangladesh National Museum (1983) is the successor to the Dhaka Museum. Lord Carmichael, the Governor of Bengal inaugurated the Dhaka Museum on 7th August 1913. Mr. M. Bonhamcarter and Nicholas D. Beatson Bell played a very significan t role in establishing this museum. Here the different cultural activities, paintings, monuments from past till present can be viewed. The museum is located in Shahbag Road, Dhaka. It remains open for public from Monday-Wednesday and Saturday-Sunday 10:30 am to 5:30 pm and on Friday from 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm.
Bangabandhu Memorial Museum

"Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman" is known as 'The Father of the Nation' in Bangladesh. He along with his family members was assassinated at his resident on 15th August, 1975. In his memory his resident has been converted as the museum in 1997. It contains rare collection of his personal effects and photographs of his lifetime. It is situated at Road No. 32 Dhanmondi R/A, the museum remains open for public from Thursday to Tuesday (10:00 am to 6:00 pm).
The Liberation museum

The Liberation War Museum is the symbol of our liberation war which took place from 26 March to 16 December, 1971. It was opened for the common people on 22 March 1996, and is dedicated to the sacrifice s of Bangladesh' s soldiers and civilian s in the Bangladesh Liberation War. The location of the museum is at 5 Segun Bagicha, Dhaka - 1000, Bangladesh. It remains open for the public from Monday to Saturday (from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm).
Ahsan Manzil

Ahsan Manzil is one of the most significant architectural monuments of Bangladesh. The structure of the platform is about 1 meter and two-storied palace which measures 125.4 by 28.75 meters. To view this breathtaking architectural mansion one has to go to Old Dhaka. It remains open for public in April - September; from Saturday to Wednesday (10: 30 am to 5:30 pm) and in October to March; from Saturday to Wednesday (9:30 am to 4:30 pm).
Lalbagh Fort

It is one of the major tourist attractions of Dhaka which was also referred as the fort of Aurangabad. The fort stood witness for the bloody battle at the time of the first war of independence (1857) against the ruling British forces. The location of the fort is in the old town of Dhaka and it remains open for public from Sunday to Friday (10:00 am to 5:00 pm).

Shaheed Minar

The monument was built in the memory of the mother language martyrs, who were killed on 21 February 1952 during the language movement. It is situated beside the campus of Dhaka Medical College at the Dhaka University campus area. It is open anytime for every one.

The National Memorial

Nationa l Martyrs' Memoria l is another special monument in Bangladesh. It is the symbol of the spirit and the sacrifice of those who were killed in the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971. The monument is located in Savar, about 35km north-west of the capital. It remains open for public from Friday to Wednesday (10:am to 5:00 pm).

Bangladesh National Parliament

Bangladesh National Parliament is also known as "Jatiya Sangshad Bhaban". The current parliament of Bangladesh is originally designed by famous archietect "Louis. I. Kahn", the total area of the parliament is 200 acres. The parliament building is an art of modern technolog y. The Nationa l Parliament complex is located at She r-e-Bangl a Nagar Dhaka.

Bangabandhu Novo Theater

The theatre is the country' s only planetariu m to present an extraterrestrial show of stars, planets and other heavenly objects in virtual reality. This dome shaped theatre with latest technological equipmen t enables visitor s to soar into the space as well as experienc e the thrills of an interplanetar y journey in a three dimensional environment. It is Located at Bijoy Sarani. It is open from Thursday to Tuesday (11:00 am to 8:00 pm).

The National Mosque (Baitul Mukarrum)

Baitul Mukarrum is the National Mosque of Bangladesh, the mosque was founded during 1960s. The mosque has a capacity to accommodate 40,000 people at a time. Currently it is counted the 10th biggest mosque in the world. It is located in the business area called Motijheel, Dhaka.

Dhakeshwari Mandir

The Dhakeshwari Mandir is also known as Bangladesh's "National Temple" for Hindu worshippers. The Dhakeshwari temple was built in the 12th century by Ballal Sen, a king of the Sena dynasty. The temple showcases four identical structures devoted to Lord Shiva. The statue of Goddess Durga is truly magnificent which attracts tourists. The temple is located in Old Dhaka right behind the campus of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
The National Zoo

The National Zoo alternatively known as Mirpur Zoo has a huge collection of animals from Bangladesh and from abroad. Colorful and attractive collections of different local and foreign species of animals and birds reside there. World famous Royal Bengal Tiger can also be seen there. The zoo is situated in Mirpur, 20 km. from the center of Dhaka beside the river Turag. It's open from Monday to Saturday (10: am to 5: pm).
Botanical Garden

An area of more than 205 acres with a huge collection of many exotic species of plants, Botanical Garden was constructed in the year 1961. The garden has an awesome collection of more than 50,000 species of plants which comprises of herbs, shrubs and also aquatic plants. It is situated in Mirpur beside the National Zoo and its open from Saturday to Thursday (9:00am to 5:00pm).

Baldha Garden

Baldha Garden is established in old Dhaka named Wari. It is the unique creation of the late Narendra Narayan Roy, the property owner of Baldha. This garden has a rich collection of indigenous and exotic plants, which is one of the most exciting attractions for naturalists and tourists. Near about 18,000 plants of 800 species are there in the garden. It is open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 7 days a week.

Dhaka University

The University of Dhaka is the oldest and the largest university of Bangladesh. It was established in 1921, with more than 32,000 students and 1,600 teachers. It was called 'Oxford of the East' in the past. It is situated at Shahbagh.
Jahangir Nagar University

This is a public university of Bangladesh . The university was establishe d in 1970 by the government of Pakistan under the ordinanc e of the Jahangirnaga r Muslim University, 1970. It is situated outside the Dhaka city at Savar.
Sonargoan

Sonargaon was the ancient capital of the period of Isa Khan's kingdom in Bengal. After the thirteenth century it was made a secondary capital to the main capital of the Sultanate of Bengal. The imperial Mughal rulers ruled Bengal, and Sonargaon, for nearly a century before Bangladesh was founded in 1608. It is about 29 km from Dhaka zero point, Narayanganj.

Cox's Bazar

Cox's Bazar is situated in the Chittagong division of Bangladesh. The beach of the Cox's Bazar is the longest natural sea beach (120 km) in the world. It is also one of the largest fishing ports of Bangladesh.

Rangamati is the Administrative Headquarter of Rangamati Hill District in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh. The town is located at 22°37'60N 92°12'0E and has an altitude of 14 metres (49 feet).It's a travel destination of Bangladesh which is known as "Lake City".
Sundarban

Sundarban is the biggest and famous mangrove forest in the world. The Royal Bengal tiger, exceptional population of spotted deer, wild boars, and host of bird species both migratory and native have made Sundarban one of the exceptional natural consigns. It is in Khulna division which stands in the south region of Bangladesh.
Kaptai Lake

Kaptai Lake is a man-made lake in south-eastern Bangladesh. It is located in the Kaptai Upazila of Rangamati District of Chittagong Division. The lake was created as a result of building the Kaptai Dam on the Karnaphuli River, as part of the Karnaphuli Hydro-electric project. The Kaptai Lake's average depth is 100 feet (30 m) and maximum depth is 495 feet (151 m).
Kantajee Tample

Bandarban has the highest peak of Bangladesh named "Tahjindong" (4,632 ft). To take the full advantage of the view of Bandarban there is a resort name Nilgiri Resort. From the resort anyone can view the South-East of Bandarban town on Chimbuk Range at a height of 2400 feet from sea level. It is ninety two kilometers away from Chittagong by metal led road.
Mainamati

Mainamati is the home of one of the most important Buddhist archaeological sites in the region. It is clearly a Vihara, or an educational centre with residential facilities. It consists of 115 cells, built around a spacious courtyard with a cruciform temple in the centre. The complex gateway is faced in the north side, resembling the Sompur Bihara. It is located almost 8 miles from the town of Comilla.
Paharpur Buddha Bihar

Paharpur Buddha Bihar is the most important and largest Buddhist monastery and it was established in 7th century by King Dharmapal. A small site-museum was built in 1956-57, with the collection of objects recovered from the area, there the statues of Buddha and Vishnu can be seen. It is only 10 km away from Jaipurhat, and 5 km from Jamalganj, Paharpur.
Mahasthangarh

One of the main attractions in North Bengal is the ancient capital of Kingdom of Mourjo. This huge structure was established in 2500 BC. There are also some isolated mound named Govinda Bhita Temple, Khodai Pathar Mound, Mankalir Kunda, Parasurmaer Bedi, Jiyat Kunda etc surrounded the city.
